I'm running Lavasoft's "Ad-Aware" to help combat this. I was reading an article in a magazine about "Spybot Search & Destroy" which gave some guidance for people who are using Ad-aware as well as Spybot. Is it really necessary to run both of them?? In any case, what do you folk think is the superior of the two?

I run both. I update the definitions and scan my entire system once a month. Sometimes one will find something the other doesnt.
I also run both. Ad-Aware is good for clearing tracking cookies and other forms of ad-ware. Spybot searches out those nasty little spyware nuisances that hide themselves away in your registry.
I have personally found that each will remove things the other won't.
