Computer Speakers Volume control fault

The fairly expensive 5:1 speakers on my PC lose the volume setting fairly regularly . Twisting the control on the centre speaker restores it but makes a crackling noise. It is OK for a while then does it again.
Do I throw it out or is there a fix ?

new knob?

you can get a spray ... but on a sealed "pot" it's 50/50

the other option is to change the control
.... not difficult ... but you need to be able to (and have) soldering iron.

your local telly shop will probably do it ... but it depends on how much they charge.
