how much for a patent? i have had an idea which i truly believe in and i want to protect it...thats if it doesnt cost an arm an leg

You will have to patent it in every country to protect it.

If you patent it in the UK it is only protected in the UK.

That is the problem Dyson had with the vacuum cleaner.
The usual cost of a UK patent is �200.

It is best to employ a proffesional to draw it up and submit. Needs to be worded properly, too broad a description could be dismissed by a rival and too close to your idea may be bypassed with a simple alteration to the product.
Could easily be �15000 to get most world patent and it takes time.
Then someone in China will totally ignore it and their authorities will do nothing. You then have to chase all the individual importers through the courts.

thanks guys....i can afford to patent of course in uk..also maybe europe...i really want to go for this...as it has ben my iea now for 12 yrs and i allways keep thinking about how much better it is than some of these ideas u see on gragons den..........anyway i will get the patent but i want to know? who could help me with making them..like a prototype etc and bring it to market..basically what type of company could help me obviously for a cut...
