My smart car won't start

Hi, My smart car did not start this morning. when i turned the key i got a whuring sound from the engine. its a passion automatic. was wondering if you knew anything about them before i go to the mechanics after work.

sounds like your starter motor is knackerd .

You say a Whirling sound!!!!! can you hear the Engine turning over? if so, some cars have a safety trip device incorporated into the auto box, was the car in (D) or (N) when you tried to start it?

it was in N, it does'nt have a D

yes it sounds like it is turning over, like a manual would do

Your starter motor is not engaging,
sometimes a little tap on the end will free it, also check your battery terminals...if on is a bit loose you will get that whirring sound.all the best.

YES - A brilliant solution from nonolledge - Do please let us know what happens when you put it into 2nd. gear and rock it! . Oops, you said it`s an automatic.

an automatic that doesn't have a "d" for drive? new one on me

Thanks for your help guys, it was a flat battery after all that. Smart cars dont have D for drive but A for automatic, well mine has that anyway. Mine does not go into R on its own accord either. Thanks again.
