SMS messages to landline number

Hi, not sure if this is in the right section but here goes! I keep getting SMS messages from a mobile number I don't recognise to my landline number. When I try to retrieve the message it always says it cannot be retrieved because either the message is blank, or it's a picture or other MMS message. Short or ringing the actual number, is there any way I can find out who this is? I'm a bit wary of ringing it in case it's a scam

If it's a picture message you'll not get it but, should it be a straight SMS message the phone company normally sends the message as voice mail. So it could be either spam/scam or a multi media message.
