marcus the answer lies in understandng your image sizes. The easy way to do this is to navigate to your photo files then right-click on the photo you want to upload. Right-click and choose 'open with > microsoft office picture manager'. have a look at the options open to you in 'edit' > resize'

This program is present on all computers and allows you to resize and save pictures.

However if your newspaper wants photos larger than the originals that you possess, you are a bit stuffed.
lil isn't quite right - it works big > small but not small > big

the point the paper is making isn't that they want a bulky file ... it's that they want a detailed picture and detail = Mb (ish). Pikkies are made up of dots (pixels) the more dots ... the greater the detail

unfortunately once you have a small picture ... making it bigger just makes each dot bigger - and the lack of detail just becomes clearer (if you get my point!)

unless the originals are a suitable size ... and you still have them (you should only ever work on copies) - you are stuffed

As ACtheTROLL says, the pictures you have are low resolution (possibly 72 ppi), but they need to be high resolution (perhaps 300 ppi). You cant make high resolution images from low resolution originals so it's not worth trying. Perhaps have a look at the settings on your camera for next time to see if you can take pictures at a higher resolution.
