I have a feeling its a pretty nasty and annoying virus. I had a mate who had a similar thing. Get a decent anti virus program like McAfee or Norton, and also download and run anti-spyware software. Spybot and Adaware are both very good
Definitely a virus, most likely due to open ports on your internet connection. Check that you have the internet firewall on (it comes as standard with WinXP but isn't enabled as standard!). Here's a link I found that will help you check/enable the firewall: http://www.computerhope.com/issues/ch000551.htm You'll also need some antivirus software to remove the virus you have on now as well.
sounds like a variant of the "blaster" worm. Search google for instructions on how to get rid of it : turn off System Restore, download "fixBlaster.exe" etc. In the long term, do get antivirus software and keep it updated. Also get and use a firewall - XP's built in firewall is a start.
