Copying music to a 160gb iPod classic?

Stupid question (probably). I've bought one of these for my hubby and thought I'd download all of his CD collection on to it! The problem I have is that the iPod stores more than my PC's hard disk.

I've been copying CD's into the iTunes libary on my PC, and then transferring them to the iPod. If I delete the CD's I've already copied to the iTunes library and copy some new stuff, when I transfer the new stuff to the iPod, will it delete the existing tracks?

Sorry that's a bit long winded LOL

Thanks

Are you sure he has enough cds to be worrying about it?
select the option in Itunes to manually manage your collection and I think you can stop it deleting whats on there.

or buy an external HD to store your music on they are fairly cheap these days

they are available from other places
Marc - can you please post and example of a suitable hard drive? thanks.

Thanks. Yes, he has thousands of CD's collected over decades - the joys of being married to a techno-phobe musician LOL!

I'll try the manually manage thing first, as I've only copied a few on so far, so won't be a disaster if I have to re-do. If that doesn't work, then I'll fork out for an external HD.

Thanks again
sorry marc, i saw the link after i posted my question.
There's a freeware program called Floola (http://www.floola.com/modules/wiwimod/) that acts allows you to manage your iPod music without going through iTunes. I have the same issue with my laptop, so when I don't have my desktop around but have a new CD I import it with iTunes, close iTunes down open up Floola and plug my iPod in. Then I add the files to my iPod through Floola, keeping the rest of my library intact.

Only issue with Floola is that sometimes it can mess up the CD artwork, if you have any artwork on your iPod. But that's only relevant if you've already got stuff on there.

Never heard of that one - I'll give that a try, thanks!
