I have AOL broadband. It has never been particularly fast , but recently I have noticed that download speeds have been getting slower and slower - sometimes as low as 25K. Am I likely to get a faster connection with an alternative ISP, or are these slow speeds simply due to the exchange I am on?

problems with slow broadband are not normally to do with the ISP, as you say it's more to do with the exchange, or more likely the physical cables between your house and the exchange... change ISP and you pay somebody else the money for the service but the cables don't change.
