Depends what email program you are using (be useful if you told us.

I seem to remember this is very difficult to do with Outlook Express if you are using that. I think you have to leave the computer on AND the e-mail program running. More here:

Maybe email everyone & tell them your going away?
you can create a rule to send a predefined template as a reply to any email that has your address in the to field in outlook (and outlook express I think)
but yes as VHG says you would have to leave your computer on for the entire time your away
You can leave a standard "out of office" message will be sent in responce to every email you reveive in M/S outlook:

1: In Mail, on the Tools menu, click Out of Office Assistant.

(The Out of Office Assistant command does not appear unless you are using an Exchange Server e-mail account and you are in the Mail view. )

2:Click I am currently Out of the Office.
In the AutoReply only once to each sender with the following text box, type the message that you want to send to others while you are out.

don't you only get the out of office assistant if you are using an exchange server though?
it's only ex server ... but It's not a good idea....
it just confirms to the spammers that you exist.

devil and deep blue ... I have to at work...
still recovering from the xmas holls - the spam count when I got back was up in the 100s ... still get 20 a day .... going on holls next month ... will come back to 1000s - daily be back up to 100s.
