have you ever tried to do this? I am looking to use multiple cameras but guess I have to bite the bullet and just buy one of the wireless ones for outside and run it off my router. Any other options? USB distance seems limiting. Thanks.

cheaper option would be to use a cat5 usb extender and a normal webcam

Don't go for a really high quality webcam though as the extenders are only usb 1

or you could daisy chain up to 5 of these to get a usb 2 cable upto 25m in length

Hey there,

If you want to install an awesome security system yourself, I suggest looking into these two kits: 1. SmartThings Kit for $299.00
2. Q-See 8 Camera DVR Kit $299.00

Total investment is $600.00, but you have no monthly payments. These will help you to set up your own security system and customize all of the settings such as sensors and lighting etc. If you don’t want to do this yourself, then I suggest hiring a professional to help you install it to your liking.
