My new pc can dial-up ok but my phone is not working. With my old pc, the phone was plugged into an extension cable and then the modem plugged into that. My old pc could connect fine and I could use my phone (not at the same time obviously). My new pc can dial up but I can no longer use my phone - I have to unplug the modem first. Any ideas? Cheers folks!

Do you have dial tone on your phone with the modem plugged in but not connected? If not, it sounds as though your modem is putting a loop on the line.

No, I don't have a dialing tone - only when the modem is completely disconnected. A loop on the line? Is this something I can set up on my pc? Cheers Fly.
The easiest way to test for a loop on your line,(unless you have a multimeter) is to plug your modem into your line but dont connect. Then ring your number from another phone. If you get the engaged tone or it goes straight to call minder then you most probably have a loop. Try unplugging the modem and try ringing it again. If it rings OK then it sounds as though your modem is faulty.
