I have two adjacent computers with Soundblaster cards...can I somehow connect both computers to the 5.1 Speaker System without having to disconnect from the sound card on one to the other. Only want to play through one at a time of course.
I have a Belkin KVM switcher for mouse keyboard and video but this only accepts 1 sound input not 3 needed for 5.1 speakers.
Is there a splitter or something?

from memory here so may be wrong but I think on some sound blastrer cards you could configure the digital connector to be either an input or an output, if you can do this on yours you could run the output from one card into the input on the other so all sound from both PC's is routed through one card, then you would only need that one computer connected to the speakers.

You could also do this using the analog connectors on the card (line out to line in) but then you wouldn't be getting true 5.1 sound from one of the computers

Oh and of course this way would also mean the computer thats connected to the speakers would need to be on at all times to get any sound from the other computer.

I think the answer above is outputting one sound card to different speaker set ups.
I need to do it the other way. Two sound cards, different PC's and one set of speakers.
