I have just bought a new laptop today with vista home premium. I cannot find any word processing software other than wordpad and I have tried opening up some docs from my portable storage and they wont open. Also cant find any spreadsheet software.etc. Can anyone tell me if I have to upgrade to office 2007 or should I have some version of it on Vista.

Cheers.

As IAL indicates, Vista is basically just an operating system. Each of the editions has a few 'extras' but none of them include office software:

You'll either need to purchase Windows software or download OpenOffice for free:
http://www.openoffice.org/
(Unless you need to open some very complex files from Office 2007, such as Word documents with exceptionally complex macros, you'll find OpenOffice is fully compatible with Office 2007 software).
