I had the same problems installing sims2 on my new laptop and had to download patches for it and it worked fine. It could also be that one of the files are corrupt or your disk just needs cleaning. I know some people have had problems loading a game onto more than one machine as legally I think you should only be using it on one. As long as you are not trying to use a copy and are using a proper cd try visiting the site below to download your patches and see whether that works and if not then report the problem to the site. If it is a copy then I am afraid that you probably have a dodgy one with a corrupt file on it.

You could also try visiting the site below and let it check that your computer is compatable, it will show up in red any problems that you have.
