Google '403 forbidden' message

Why has Google suddenly started to ask me to type the text in a box to access Google? Message is a 403 Forbidden, and then tells me Google thinks I'm using an automated search or somesuch. I've run virus and spyware scans - no threats.

I dont completely understand it but have found an explanation for the error message if its helpful?

it looks like its saying you have to use the website page-by-page and the error can occur if you jump straight to a particular URL
