Hi all. Got a new dvd recorder - phillips brand - and was just wondering how to view the disc on another player? I know I need to finalise it, but it won't allow me that option using dvd-rw discs...

DVD RW - you've answered your pwn question. You don't finalise those discs at all, otherwise you wouldn't be able to re write them.
Stupid :)

Well duh!

What I meant was - is there any way to view on another player?
To my knowledge, no. Maybe some modern and or expensive players allow this but not the older or cheaper ones.
I'm not sure, all my RW work on all the players.
PC, Built in and portable.

In work, I often have to deal with rtfm failures, and often lose the rag with machinists who waste my time with them.
I used myriad's advice and now find it won't allow me view rws on other players, computer etc. Bug ger.

Thanks guys.
DVD+/-R's, DVD-RW's generally need to be finalised in order to be able to play them back on another DVD player or on a PC. However, once a disc is finalised, it is no longer possible to edit its content or make further recordings to the disc, however it is still possible to erase or format the disc to reuse it for recordings. DVD+RW's do not need to be finalised in order to play them on other DVD players and even if your DVD recorder can finalise these, like DVD-RW's they can still be formatted or erased.
