I once replaced my lost Nokia 3410 with a phone with colour screen and snazzy polyphonic ringtones.

Mistake.

I hated it and swapped with a family member to get another 3410.
When it gives up, what should I replace it with? I don't mind second hand on e bay.

The 3410 is perfect for me, as i want to make calls and texts and nothing else. No camera, no music, no showing off. No stupidly small buttons that my fat fingers can't operate.

I want to be able to see at a glance if I have missed a call or received a text without having to light up the screen or open a folding phone.

Perhaps I should buy another second hand 3410 now and put it away ready, or did Nokia improve on it?

Tesco will sell you the Nokia 1112, which meets your requirements, for just 19.97. It's PAYG, on Tesco's own service and you get 10 of airtime included (so the phone actually costs you under a tenner):

bu - isn't the 1112 the model with an LED torch on the end?
...technology rules .... YOU WILL accept the new facilities YOU WILL NOT question if you need them. Teleportation will be available on the next generation 800g models ... so if you misdial and find yourself on the dark side of the sun .... you only have yourself to blame ;-)
and If the earphone also looks like an iPod ... so much the better.

Sadly the phone will go the way of all old kit
then you won't be able to find one for love nor money

remember those super comfy platforms? .... the ones that looked so good with the 20" bell bottoms ...

I also remember vowing that the only radio I'd listen to was radio one. (now I fantasise about a timeshare on ambridge farm!)

THEN you will find a few surfacing on e-bay then the 3410 will become a design icon .... and you won't be able to afford one.

It's just the way of the world ... today's innovation will eventually become part of the good old days .... when things were much simpler.
(and you can get a polyphonic ring ring ringtone - sounds just like one of the old dialphones)

Do they do one in bakelite?
The nokia 1112 is dead simple & seems robust with good battery life, just like my old 3310 (bless it). Mine was 11.99 from Virgin.
