Getting a VGA cable to work from laptop to LCD TV

how do i get a vga cable to work from my laptop to my lcd tv? Do i need to install anything or just plug it in - the latter didnt work!!

There is usually a function key you need to use to get the screen to switch to the VGA. On my laptop it is (press the function key) and the number 5. (Number 5 has a little green icon representing a screen on it).

Read the manuals. Most laptops have either a function key combination of a system tray control (or both) which allows you to toggle between Built-in Display, External Display, and both. Also, unless your TV has an auto-sensing feature, you will also need to use your remote control to select the correct input on the TV.
