Has a coil of wire inside that resists the flow of electricity. When electricity is forced through it, the wire gets hot.

the ring that you see is a metal tube, bent to shape.inside is a coiled wire that is insulated from the outer cover and offers resistance to the flow of current and therefore gets hot. different lengths of wire increase or decrease the resistance and the longer the coil, the hotter it gets. it is pre meditated at manufacture to what the final KW consumption will be. there are two wires leaving the coil, one in (the positive + ) and one out, (the negative - ), there will also be an earth for safety.

most electric cookers run on ac, so the two wires will be connected to live and neutral
