The HDMI cable carries the HD signal. If there is a signal present the tv should switch to the correct input.

so i leave the scart lead connected?
switch your tv to the hdmi input if it hasn't done this automatically, take out the scart if you still get a pic,it's ok..

says hd ready on the installation booklet.haven't read the small print yet.(panasonic)
regards.
>says hd ready on the installation booklet

The term "HD ready" is not the same as "HD capable".

Buying a HD Ready TV does NOT automatically give you HD TV.

Buying a HD Ready DVD recorder does not automatically give you HD TV either.

The ONLY way to get HD (as far as I am aware) is to either:

1) Have the Sky HD package (with a HD receiver) and viewing one of the HD channels.

2) Have a HD DVD player that plays either BluRay disks or HD DVD disks.

If you can give us the number of your Panasonic DVD recorder we can let you know if it is a HD recorder.
