Follow this guide, and substitute your dvd recorder for their video recorder.

Good luck. :)

Ideally you will be able to record digital tv from both the freeview tv and the cable box - but it is more important to get the cable box set up correctly, as the tv will have to be left on and tuned to the digital station you want to record.
you should be able to go dvd to cable and then cable to tv

built in freeview should have it's own av channel so any recording would be on your cable box say cable av 1 and free on av2 or vice versa that way when you record you can contnue to watch another channel via built in free view

so dvd to cable then cable scart to tv if you have two ariel points i.e tv in and tv out then you can connect from outside ariel socket to cable then from cable to tv so you tv gets a signal to run the tv free view or you can purchase a spliter ariel box and connect to main ariel box and then run two leads hope this isn't two confusing but as a after thought you cable should run direct from outside leaving you ariel to run into the tv ....lol now i am confused anyway the answers there somewhere.....
