When i switched on my computer I've got a little red shield icon on my task bar.
When I click on it it says that avast! antivirus 4.7.1029 might be out of date.
I then click on 'start' then 'All programmes and then avast antivirus.
I then get a small black box come up that looks a bit like a car stereo!
There is a 'lightening icon' which says - update the virus database.
I have clicked on this and after a few seconds it tells me that it has updated.

My problem is that I have still got the little red shield icon on my task bar.
Have i done something wrong or is there something I haven't done?

As you can see from my question, I would like any help in 'simple terms' please!!! x

I don't use Avast myself but I suggest updating via the icon, instead of from Start>All programs. i.e. double-click the icon. That should launch a panel with an update option.

I agree with the prev ' and have used Avast for many years and find it fantastic ( better than Norton that I was led to believe was the best)

vink, I have clicked on the red icon,
it says - Vps already up to date (current version 000766.1)

So if I'm already up to date why do i keep getting warnings telling me to update.
I'm confused :(
Just restart your computer to see if it comes back. If not you're all set.
