can you play educational CDs on mp3 players?

my mother does an open university course and gets cds with english plays on for her to study. Is the process of converting this data to mp3 and playing it on an mp3 player the same as music files or not?

iTunes should handle that without a problem....preferences-advanced-importing-mp3
