CD-RW problem

I have a Freecom CD-RW which has just started causing problems. It was
working two weeks ago.

I originally thought it was a conflict problem, but I have just re-formated with my recovery disc and it is still not working.

My spec is Win 98se, 320mb RAM, 2x10gig hdd. CD-RW uses Adaptec
software.

I can't get it to do a thing, won't erase RWs or copy to CDs. When I
try, it just freezes. It often (although not always) tells me there is no disc in the drive. I have checked all the connections inside.

Please ... any help form all you experts out there will be very much appreciated!

TIA ;-)

I suggest to reinstall your CD-Writer. Remove it from the Device Manager; reboot and let Windows re-install it again. Another possibility is to connect it to a different IDE-controller. Make sure that every program running in the background, has been closed down, except for Systray and Explorer. Als, empty the Windows temp folder and defragment your HD(s). Cheers, PD
Do you see any exclamation marks in the device manager? If not, I suggest you re-install your CD-Writer and even connect it to a different IDE-controller (don't forget to change jumpers accordingly). You may want to try different software (like Nero) as well, if it doesn't work out. Cheers, PD
