I have Norton 2006 installed and my subscription is up for renewal in two weeks. Is it possible to delete it and re-install to get round this as I can't really afford to pay. Thanks in advance.

Only by reformatting the hard drive.
Norton is a dreadful resource hogger and can slow your pc down. You would be much better off totally removing Norton - you need a 'tool' to do it properly - and using a free firewall and anti-virus.

I would recommend:

Firewall - Comodo
http://www.personalfirewall.comodo.com/

Anti-virus - Avast:

Both of these are free and work well together.

Another option is Zone Alarm with AVG, again both free.

No it's not. But as Norton is a load of junk, you could uninstall it and replace it with one of the free AV progs such as AVG.

Get it here (Right-hand column)

I suggest you also get yourself a free firewall, such as Comodo.

Re-formatting my hard drive is not an option I want to take at this time. Thanks again to Ethel & Rojash I have noted down the addresses of your suggestions. I have to get rid of Norton first, I have the web address of Symantecs uninstall tool which, apparently, completely gets rid of Norton. Many thanks again.
