Hey. Apart from 'Bandwidthplace.com' does anyone know of any good Bandwidth Speed Test sites for my Boradband connection and, is it true that, although I am paying for a 1024Kbs connection, 90% of the time it is way under that? Cheers in advance

Err, I mean Broadband....
One of my colleagues uses this test - it's simple and quick (takes about 10-15 secs) - http://specials.zdnet.co.uk/misc/band-test/speedte

1854.5 Kbps 227.3 K bytes/sec
Theyre my results.... huh? Don't get it :'o(
Does that mean that instead of 1024 it is 227.3?
'Fraid so! It's very rare that you get anywhere near 100% - I currently get 435.9 Kbps / 53.4 K bytes/sec on a 512Kb connection - your 1 Meg connection's underperformance may be largely down to your ISP's contention ratio. Some ISPs perform way better than others, but a lot of them funnel so many of their subscribers through one combined connection that demand outstrips the capacity, especially at peak times. Try running the test again at 2 in the morning! :o)
Hey, so u know, ur paying for a connection of 1024 kbps (kilobits-per second), which (if it was going FLAT out, which i doubt it will be most of the time) should give you a download speed of 128 Kbytes (kilobytes-per second) you can convert Bits to Bytes by dividing by 8 as there are 8 Bits in a Byte. SO, this means that the test results you recieved are actually overly good, although its more likely that its just a mistake with the test, would reccommend trying a few different tests from different sites and comparing them.
Good point UBBERgoose - PaulB's figures are more typical of a 2Mbps connection - thought they were a bit good compared to my lowly 512Kbps results :o)
Its now easy to test your Bandwidth also you can Identifies which users, applications, and protocols are consuming the most network bandwidth and highlights the IP addresses of the top talkers on the network.
Check at http://www.solarwinds.com
You can check your broadband speed using http://www.scanmyspeed.com/ . There do a extended speed scan to get accurate test results. It is not unusual to get speed less than the speed mentioned in the broadband plan.
