Sounds to me as if you did a parallel installation (put the XP install and kept the 98) rather than the upgrade (XP overwriting the 98). You can stop the option screen by editing a file called boot.ini Remove the second line which has something like: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows 98" /fastdetect As for getting your hard drive space back, it depends. If XP was installed in the c:\windows directory (where the original 98 install resides) then you are out of luck. If XP installed in another folder (C:\windows.000 for example) then you could delete the original Windows 98 folder (ie C:\windows). Windows 98 is a pretty small installation (350 MB or so) so you would not gain that much space by deleting it. Try running disk cleanup on the C: drive.

Thanks but i did the disk cleanup but no luck. I checked and XP is installed on E drive my spare drive for music. How would i go about reinstalling XP on c drive so that it is the only system on my computer. Really Bugging me now close to giving up on computers altoghether lol. Thanks Bobby
The way to upgrade the Windows 98 is to run the XP installation from Windows 98 and select upgrade. It may have installed on E: because you did not have enough free space on C: If you right-click my computer (in XP) and select manage then make the C: partition active using disk management it should boot to 98 again. You could always wipe C: and put a clean install of XP on it (you need at least a 3 GB hard drive for XP plus applications).

Thank you cool I like the idea of wiping C drive who do i do that and will i have to install XP again. (god some people are never happy with what they have got lol) Thank you again Bobby
The easiest way would be to boot from the XP disc then delete the C: partition then install on the free space on C: This would create a new XP installation on C:\windows (the default). However, this would require loading on the drivers and applications from new. You would then delete the XP installation on E:\windows. It may be possible to copy the E:\windows XP installation to C:\windows (after reformatting C:) then editing the boot.ini file but it could turn out to be a nightmare since the E:\windows XP registry may look for E:\program files for the applications. Or something.
