On the task manager by the time is there two minature PCs, one behind the other, whose screens light up? Right click these and select "disconnect". Alternatively, right click the "my network places" icon on the desktop > properties right click the active dial-up networking connection and "disconnect".
I agree with the above. However, if you're using XP, you may not get the icon on the taskbar. To cure this, whilst on line, choose START > CONNECT TO > Then choose your dial up. Under the properties, you should see an option for displaying the icon. Choose it & then you can do the above.
