what is the best metal detecter to buy for a small seven year old.

Head down to argos and get a fairly cheap one, but if he builds an interest you could encourage it by having him help build his own!

a " v l f " type is the best for kids as it picks up anything, whereas the other types use a lot of discrimination to avoid pull rings, foil,iron etc and take the fun out of digging up all sorts of rubbish. I've dug up sackfulls of old iron but had a great time and even found a broken bronze age axehead on the south downs. its 3000 years old and I though I was going to retire on it. looked on e-bay, they sell for about �3. so still working!
