Do these 'cash-back' phone contracts work?

They seem too good to be true. I've seen a deal that would in theory cost me nothing for a year...but in reality how easy is it to get the cash-back you are promised? I think you have to send back bills etc but does anyone have any experiences of this kind of deal? Thanks

Ive had no problems a couple of years you have to send the bills back but they do have to be sent before a certain date
The last time I looked into this I found out (from credit searches) that the companies offering the cash back were less than 18 months old and there was no accounting information about them.

The chances of them being in business 12 months later to claim your cash back was (imho) low.
