Help would be appreciated for my daughter. She has just signed up for a Virgin package, broadband, phone etc (cable which is not available in our area) and needs to uninstall her Norton I think . Virgin package is said to have own antivirus/firewall. Should she stick with this, does she have to or would she be better to install AVG for instance. She has returned home from abroad and is no longer connected to BT
Thanks

I have Virgin broadband (formerly telewest) and much prefer the free ZoneAlarm firewall and free AVG anti-virus.

I would never recommend Norton in any circumstances, but if your daughter is happy with it there is no reason why she shouldn't continue with it.

Thanks Ethel My daughter has no wish to keep Norton necessarily although she has a paid subscription. Virgin was only installed yesterday but she says there is some sort of clash with that. I told her that the helpful folk on this site tend to recommend AVG, I have it and I suggested to her anyway. I used to have Zone Alarm too but my local engineer who is very helpful at directing me to free things assured me my router/ ISP provide a very adequate firewall. She was concerned however that Virgin had their own which might be compulsory?
As you have the same and use both the above it seems not and I value your advice thanks
Their own isn't compulsory. Many ISPs offer this sort of service, just to get more customers basically. They just 'hire out' another security suite with their branding on it.

I'd recommend the same as Ethel. Remove Norton (since it's rubbish anyway, regardless of using Virgin or not) with this tool, then get AVG Free and Zonealarm Free, together with Adaware spyware removal (also free).
