really stupid question but what is the difference between the two? I know how thick am I?

iPod is the name owned by Apple that they give to their MP3 players.

But "MP3 players" is the generic name for all MP3 players.

Because Apple got in first with iPod it has become the sort of generic name for MP3 players.

Like when people say they are going to Hoover the carpet when in fact they mean vacuum the carpet.
I'd just like to say that Apple did not get in there first.
They simply made a better job of it than everyone else and became the most popular.

Sorry to be a pedant but we all need a role in life.
