I have an old tumble drier which nevertheless works quite well, except that rather worryingly, the (UK, 3-pin) plug in the electrical socket gets very hot, very quickly. What's wrong with it?

If you can open up the plug check that all connections are tight (including the fuse in its socket).

Otherwise, cut it off and put a new plug on (with 13A fuse).
The most probable cause is a faulty or loose connection in the plug. As the fault is likely producing some sparking inside the plug it is a fire hazard. I recommend you get the plug replaced without delay.
