Is it possible to buy a device that will clean old vhs video tapes? I have some precious old tapes that have what appears to be mould on the tape itself. When I tried to play one, it damaged my VCR. How can I clean them?

You could try your video library which may be able to put them through a tape cleaner. Or if the case is a screwed together type, you could open it and try brushing the mould off with a soft brush. I think it's likely that the oxide may have been damaged though. Have they been stored somewhere damp? I ask because I've been playing some of my old tapes which are now over twenty years old and they still play fine. Anyway, good luck with them.
I have a video cassette cleaning system that has been in my cupboard for a long while. You can have it if your interested it is for vhs tapes
