how do you get rid of an icon on your pc screen? specifically, one of the ones at the bottom of the screen by the clock?

Right click on the blue bar along the bottom and from the menu select Properties and a window is dislayed.

At the bottom of the window press the Customize button and another window is displayed..

In the Behaviour column you can click on the text Hide When Inactive.

You can change it to Always Hide.
