Motorola L6 text messaging query

Hi there

I realise that the answer to this will be blindingly obvious to 99% of people out there but humour me please!

My daughter has just got a motorola L6 mobile phone for her birthday but none of us can figure out how to send text (sms) messages on it!

We press the - symbol and 'message' comes up at the top of the screen with 9 icons, the top right being 'message'.
we select that and 3 options come up: message inbox. MMS templates and finally Browser msgs.

None of these seems to allow us to compose and send a text message....help!....please!!

You select the 'message inbox' option and then press the menu key (- key again) one of the options in there is 'new message', press that and away you go.

Actually that doesn't work there's no new message option.

Seems like I need a message from Orange to activate text messaging on the sim card and they're keeping the wife on hold for an eternity!
