Want to upgrade my dial up AOL to Broadband it says I need a bt broadband enabled line???

As I will be paying more to upgrade to AOL broadband and to also enable my BT line for broadband is it cheaper to use BT as my service provider??

You don't pay for an upgrade to a BT line for broadband - your phone line is either suitable or not. You can find out here.
If you have broadband availability, it's simply down to the cost of the server's monthly charges. Note that some cheaper services have a monthly download limit.
