problem with composing emails

all of a sudden when i am composing emails I get a dot between each word and get paragraph markers.
i can't see what I've clicked and when i check in the settings I can't see what it is I need to alter. i'm using outlook 2003 and it was fine until I pasted a passage into an email.
emails arrive at there destination dot free, but it's very very annoyig when I'm trying to do a message getting all these dots and markers.
if anyone can help I'd be grateful, it is driving me mad.
