I have just read that microsoft plan to spread ie7 as an automatic update. Have also heard its not that brilliant. I only use ie 6 for a few websites (Egg for one) that will not work with anything else What is the general opinion should I accept the update or get a tool to prevent it. Seems its raising the wga subject again too!

have you tried firefox - not had any problems on any sites whatsoever (Egg included) - if you'd rather not and are happy with IE, can you not (on automatic update) go to the Custom option and just not select this particular update ?
keep using firefox in general. the more use it (and other standards compatible browsers in general), the more developers will have to listen and stop coding sites for IE only.

IE7 is an improvement on IE6, just nothing massive. It's certainly not as good as firefox or opera for most things.

It shouldn't harm anything if you do install it. Some sites will be experiencing a few compatibility issues with IE7, but nothing major.

Sorry I didn't say I don't use or like ie because I use Firefox
I am surprised alunrw you say you don't have a problem with Egg. They send me emails but if I try to go to my account using firefox I get a message that I need to have ie and I cannot access the account unless I use ie. If it were not for the fact that egg allows me to view other bank accounts too I would probably change.
Sounds as though I may as well allow the ie7 update and just delete if problems arise for the very few occasions I use it anyway
Thanks to all for your comments
Have you tried the Egg website using the IE Tab extension for Firefox?

I'm a Firefox user and I don't have an issue with Egg either.
