Shipping A Laptop Abroad

I'm moving to Taiwan in the new year and as we're travelling through many countries to get there, I don't particularly want to take my laptop backpacking with me. What would be the best, cheapest and safest way to ship my �1000 laptop to Taiwan and have it arrive safe and sound?! Plus I need compensation should anything go missing. I don't need it to be shipped straight away either, ie, I could wait a few weeks as opposed to next day delivery which bumps the price up. If anyone can help, I'd be most grateful.
