Is the BT Home Hub any good?

I've been looking to upgrade to 8MB broadband and have been shopping around for the best package. BT hasn't been on my list cos they generally bug me, but came across their current BT Total Option 2 offer which comes with free Home Hub. But is it any good? I was put off the Orange (Wanadoo) option because their 'Livebox' can't be used with any other supplier, and is a bit hard to sort if a problem arises. Is this BT box the same? Is it tied to BT packages? Is it worth the slightly higher monthly charge to get this 'free' box? So far my other options are Tiscali and Plus.net, who are both cheaper than my current Pipex tarriff (�24.99 per month for 1MB).
