I am having problems booting up my comuter (Windows ME). It either freezes or opens in Safe Mode. I have followed the help instructions and have found it opens in normal mode (but still freezes) when I have disabled 'ndis.vxd' in the system configeration. What is it and what does it do? Has it been corrupted and can I get a new file from anywhere? I have tried reinstalling windows.

It sounds as though it is ethernet card related. See http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=261766
I had similar problems with my computer some time ago it also runs on ME the problem was a virus that had attacked my computer and damaged files that eventually stopped my system from working properly, the only cured for me was to delete the hard drive completely and then re-installed everything, once you get it up and running install an anti virus and a fire wall to protect your computer in the future, don't forget to save all documents (if possible) prior to wiping the hard drive. After you have installed your anti virus you will be amazed how many times you are attacked from other people.
