What does 8sms response time mean on a monitor?

Is this the highest you can go at the present time?

8ms means 8 milli-seconds.

This is the amount of time it takes for the pixels that make up the screen to update. You want it to be as low as possible. 8ms is probably perfectly fine though.

If it's too high you may see ghosting effects.
