I'm thinking of buying a DVD recorder with a HDD facility to replace my Sky plus box. Is the quality of recording to HDD from say a freeview box as good as the sky plus ? All I ever seem to record are programmes from mainstream channels so paying Sky for the priviledge hardly seems economical !

I do believe that you can only record what you are watching from a Freeview STB. You can get them with a double tuner which solves that problem. More expensive but also more versatile in that you can record through one tuner and watch through the other. Or maybe have two STBs connected would do it..............
I have a HDD recorder and the quality is excellent.

I have a Humax 9200, it's fab.

Doesn't have a DVD recording facility but it does have a USB2 port. So you can connect it to a PC, copy over the movie file and then burn it to DVD.
I copied over an hour long programme and it took forever. I've yet to try burning to DVD though, I can't be doing with waiting for Nero to convert it.
