Hey i wonder if anyone can help me, i have a pewter necklace pendant which i have worn like every day for the last year... but it has started to go really really dull grey colour. I tried to clean it up with vinegar/nail varnish remover but nothing worked it has gone like a dull grey colour. But lately around the rim of the pendant where it rests against my chest has started to go shiney silver does anyone know why this is? and can i use any substances to get rid of the dull non shiney grey to restore it back to how the shiney edges are...maybe its from sweat *ew* i really dont know.
Any advice would be great!

Do not have an answer to your question, just thought that pewter had a quantity of lead in it, if so could this not be dangerous wearing it against you skin, I know you said you have worn it for a year, but maybe it takes a while before lead can get through your skin.
Lead is poisionous so cannot understand why, it is in jewelery, I could be wrong, just guessing.
But an answer from an expert on metals might help.
perhaps the rubbing against your skin is the answer - perhaps it needs to be highly polished/buffed with a cloth.

if you know anyone with a dremel hobby drill, that has a buffer attachment which should work, otherwise prepare for a sore wrist...lol

you could try a silver polish cloth or just a buffer cloth or chamois leather one

pentdragon - really ? :s thats proper bad if it does have lead in! On the back of the pendant it says "k4557 Fine Pewter" dunno if that helps to identify it or anything?
