portable cd/dvd audio player for mp3 ...is there any out there?

Is there a music player that is the same size as an ordinary cd music walkman type that will take mp3s on a dvd but will also play my existing cd collection and my own cd mp3 collection. Reason I am asking this is that I prefer this type of player to Ipod etc...which if find to be too susceptible to damage and terrible battery life.
