changing broadband connection but keeping old modem

I am switching my broadband from NTl to Talk Talk very soon. Talk Talk are selling their modem for 29.99 but cant I use the NTl modem box I already have with Talk Talk? Will everything work out ok? Its not compulsory to buy the talk talk modem.

Not to sure about the ntl one but you can get a modem for about a �5 on ebay.

I assume you mean NTL the cable company.

Cable uses a different sort of modem to one for a normal telephone line so you will have to get a new modem.

I don't think it's compulsary to buy your modem off talk talk.

but I only have NTL broadband and nothing else. Last year an NTL bloke came to mine to install the modem and now they dont want it back! confused!

A "voiceband" modem is designed to connect a computer to the Internet over a standard telephone line.

A cable modem is designed to send and receive data through a cable Internet connection, which typically can also bring you cable TV.
