resolution problem

I have just bought a 32" goodmans hd tv which i am using as a pc monitor. there seems to be a problem with the resolution, down the lef hand side of the screen there is a black line like you get ant the top and botom of some films, and on the right hand side of the screen you can only see the first didgit of the clock. the tv says it has a res of 1366x768 but its currently on 1024x768 and wont go any higher. my graphics card is an ati radeon x700. any ideas? and the writting on the left of the screen isn't as clear as the centre. before this i had a 26" goodman hd and that worked fine.
