An MP3 player will be able to play songs ... and an iPod, well ...errrmmm ....
i would guess that it is because ipod is a big company name... i myself got a good bargin from Argos, a 2GB MP3 player for 80 ... the equivalent ipod was like 200.. ( this was last year, im not sure how much prices have vaired now ) but my mp3 player was a Goodmans. I love it. holds 700 songs of mine... but as i said, ipod has the bigger name, and the new nano you have to say looks very cool.
as well, ipods are color screen, and im not sure, but my friend says you can view photos on them as well, but why would you need a tiny screen to view pictures when you can see them on the digital camera! or just at home on your computer.
The 60GB iPod can hold up to 15,000 songs, so your mp3 player must be huge! It can also play any video when converted to MPEG4 format using free software. I have a few thousand songs, a couple of hundred music videos, 2 series of TV Programmes and a film on mine and it is little over half full.

Fork out for the iPod, you won't regret it.
jp_2031, you are right - you can view photos on it too. I have a selection from my wedding and have shown them to a few people much in the way you show them pictures you have taken on your phone - except the screen is MUCH higher resolution, like a mini TV, very sharp. With a single cable you can use the iPod to show your photos as a slideshow on your home TV, to any of your music, with transitions.

The iPod also holds all your contacts, calendars, notes and has 4 games built in.
iPod is just the name of the player. It is an mp3 player, just one made my Apple. You pay partially for the looks, and partially for the user experience. If you have lots and lots of music on there, you'll find it much easier to navigate with an iPod than just about anything else available.
